Recently, I learned about design perspective and how a single object can either aid or challenge its users. What fascinated me most is realizing that designers hold so much power—they are fully in charge of the outcome of a design and how people experience it. Interesting, right?
Today, I want to share three everyday objects that I find both exciting and incredibly useful. The funny thing is, I’ve always appreciated how well they work for me, but it wasn’t until after that lesson on design that I truly understood—these items weren’t just convenient, they were intentionally and thoughtfully designed to meet my needs. So, let’s dive in!
My Shining Keyboard
As basic as it looks, my laptop keyboard is one of the most useful designs in my daily life. Since I often work late at night or very early in the morning, the backlit keys have been a lifesaver. The designers clearly thought about me when creating this. I’m sure they looked at one another and thought ‘hmmm people like Sarah shouldn’t have to struggle with a torch or desk light just to see the keys because they love to work at night’.
Prior to this I have used other keyboards with no backlit light and I can tell you for sure it’s very inconvenient. Picture this: you share a room with a friend who loves to sleep in complete darkeness but then you also have a lot of work to do, deadline in the morning—now there’s conflict of interest. What do you do? This is one of the solutions this keyboard solves.
But there’s another brilliant aspect I didn’t expect. At night, when your screen is the only light source, it can strain your eyes. The soft, warm glow from my keyboard keys creates ambient lighting that balances out the harsh screen glare. It’s like having a gentle reading lamp built right into my workspace. The result? Convenience, comfort, and accessibility all rolled into one thoughtful design choice.
It is how a simple feature improves productivity and fits seamlessly into my lifestyle. Very mindful, intentional, thoughtful, and incredibly practical. Sometimes the smallest design features make the biggest difference. I can boldly say this about my lovely keyboard.
My laptop Bag
I know it seems like everything revolves around my laptop—and honestly, it does. Most of my daily activities depend on it, so carrying it around needs to be effortless. Convenience, after all, is everything.
Unlike traditional school bags that feel bulky and childish to me, no offense to school bag lovers, this one-strap design hits the sweet spot. It gives me options: I can sling it over either shoulders, wear it across my body for extra security and balance, or carry it by the handle like a briefcase when I want to switch things up and look ‘businessy’. That versatility is something I really value.
The cushioned interior ensures my laptop stays safe, which is absolutely crucial since it’s my most valuable possession.The multi-zip compartments keep everything organized—I can dedicate one section to my chargers, another to snacks, and another to books. Each item has its place.
My favorite feature, though, is the open outer pocket with no zip. It’s quick and practical—perfect for those moments when I need to drop something in or grab it out without fuss. Simple, efficient, and intentional. Every detail screams thoughtful design—the kind that anticipates real-world needs before you even know you have them.
My Crocs
I know many of you don’t like Crocs for whatever reason, but let me tell you something—they’re a masterclass in practical design. With this single post, I’m going to open your mind and bring you into the light of the Crocs world.
Let me start with convenience. By now you’ll know I’m very heavy on convenience, and when a product is designed with this in mind, count me in! My Crocs are extremely comfortable—lightweight, soft, bouncy, easy to wear, affordable, and durable. What more could you want?
But here’s where they really shine: versatility. You can wear them as normal slides or flip up that heel strap when you need more security with your feet. It’s like having two shoes in one. I think it’s called ‘sport mode’—genius naming, by the way.
Don’t get me started on how easy they are to clean. Whatever stain—mud, oil, food—just use a cloth and water with a gentle scrub. Nothing serious, and your Crocs won’t be damaged.
You can wear them during any weather. During cold months, I pair them with socks. During hot weather, I skip the socks because they’re breathable and don’t accumulate heat. I wear them for basic errands outside and for chores within the house.
I could go on and on about how Crocs are the product of beautiful design minds placing functionality over fashion. And honestly? I still think they’re fashionable.
They are designed for real life—and that’s exactly what makes them brilliant.

What design decisions make your life easier without you even noticing? Because for every great design, there are also not-so-great ones.
Appreciating good design helps us see how intentional choices—whether in color, texture, material, or usability—can transform simple objects into something we can’t imagine living without.
